The Uppers inspiration for July: STYLE CRUSH BY LINDA RODIN
This month´s style crush is the perfect example of having style at any age. It’s stylist and skincare guru, Linda Rodin. The silver-haired stylist, who went grey at 35 and has never considered a dye-job, has become something of a pin-up for women of a certain age. A firm favourite on Pinterest’s mature beauty boards, she wisely advises that ‘chasing youth is never going to make you happy and if you start worrying about it, you’re screwed.’
Her career in fashion started with a bit of this and that, a spot of modeling turned into a stint as a photographer until Rodin’s late sister Christine said, ‘You take the worst pictures but get the best clothes.’ It was at that point Rodin realized her true vocation as a freelance stylist. Though more recently, she’s reverted to modeling, and founded an eponymous skincare line – Rodin is 65, and has amazing skin, so she’s obviously doing something right.
There is Beauty in Simplicity
This is perhaps one of the best Linda Rodin style tips that you can bear in mind. Although dressing up to the nines every now and then is good, nothing beats looking simple and effortless. If you want to stun the crowd, remember this Linda Rodin mantra: “There is beauty in simplicity.”
Invest in the Original
An original item such as a bag or shoes can be expensive, but Linda Rodin style tips dictate that it can be cheaper in the long run. That’s because a genuine item stays classically chic throughout the years. Take the case of the classic Louis Vuitton or Gucci bag. It might be pricey at first, but it will do you good – as you can wear it in your 20’s – up to your 60’s, just like Linda Rodin.
Never Wear a Designer Look from Head to Toe
Designer pieces are undoubtedly lovely, but Linda Rodin warns the ladies out there NEVER to wear such labels from head to toe. Find a break from the excessive opulence by incorporating your designer pieces with simpler, dressed-down designs. This viewpoint actually stresses another Linda Rodin style tip, which is “There is beauty in simplicity.”
Denim is Perfect
Although Linda Rodin can afford expensive haute couture, she always has this to say: denim is always perfect. A denim fan since age 5, she loves the different types of jeans – especially the vintage ones. Get the chic Linda Rodin style tip by wearing a classic denim jacket or baggy-legged jeans (don’t forget to roll the hems up.)
Always wear a lip color
¨Unless it’s five in the morning, I’m wearing red lipstick to the airport. Whenever I’m fed up and miserable, I pull out my Rodin Oil, smell it, put it on my face and hands, and feel a little refreshed.¨
It’s all about the silk scarf
¨Summer’s neckerchief trend is fast growing. Rather than feel bad about the neck starting to sag, I tie a silk scarf up in knots. ¨ Yep, it’s all about the scarf now. Linda Rodin goes for it.
The Uppers silk scarves go perfectly with Linda´s recommendation to combine elegant simple clothing with eye-catching accessories and tying a silk-scarf to the neck to refresh the look, add special and unique style taste and help you to feel attractive and self-confident.
When in one of interviews asked about a piece of advice to her 20-year-old self, Linda answered: ¨Don’t be so insecure. Believe in yourself.¨ The Uppers additional tip for it – live the moment, trust your passions and good vibes only.
